How to play

The mission

  • Free the four bound hostages in each stage. The stage boss will not face you until you do.
  • Two hostages carry a power scroll: stronger blades and one free hit.
  • One hit ends a life. Beating the mid-boss sets a checkpoint.
  • Ninjutsu clears the screen once per life. Finish a stage without it for a bonus.

Moves

  • Up + jump leaps to the upper walkway. Down + jump drops back down.
  • Attack throws shuriken. Up close it becomes a sword strike.
  • Crates are solid. Jump onto them or over them. Crates with a red seal break with the sword and drop items.
  • Chain kills quickly to build a combo multiplier of up to ×8.

Hayate, your dog

  • In companion mode, press the Hayate button to send him at the nearest enemy. He pins it so it cannot attack.
  • Enemies you finish while he holds them score double.
  • If he is shot while attacking, he retreats and needs a few seconds to recover.

Scoring

  • Every stage ends with a rank from S to D, based on deaths, ninjutsu use, best combo and time left.
  • Top-ten scores are saved with your initials. Extra lives at 30,000 points and every 50,000 after.

Controls

Two keyboard layouts work at once. Select a key to change it, then press the new key. Esc cancels.

Controller buttons

Select a slot, then press the controller button you want for it. The stick and d-pad always move.

No controller detected. Press any button on it to wake it.

Touch

  • Put your thumb anywhere on the left side to use the stick.
  • Push up and tap Jump to reach the walkway.
  • Rotate to landscape for the biggest view.
